As not only a clinician, but a pubic speaker, curator and mental health advocate, getting into the community means a lot to Shanae Benito. Be sure to find her hosting, speaking or putting together a community outreach event near you.

Creative dEvelopment session

In honor of Suicide Prevention Month, Shanae led a meaningful character development session with students at B.E.S.T Academy on Mental Health. The session aimed to address current stigma surrounding mental health among black adolescents, while creating a safe space for open dialogue. Students and members of the Emerging 100 Atlanta had the opportunity to learn best practices for navigating productive coping strategies such as cognitive behavioral therapy, peer group support, mindfulness and more!

Hosting such discussions helps to raise awareness around mental health resources, prevent fear of seeking help in times of need, and increase overall understanding of the complex nature of what it means to be human, leading to more empathetic and supportive communities.
